Blog #2: 1/10/23: Alaska Airlines Retires A320-NEO Fleet

Welcome to the January 10, 2023 post of Aviation News! I’m Brooke from Brooke in the Air and today we’re discussing Alaska Airlines’ final trip and disposal of their Airbus A320-CEO/NEO narrow-body aircraft.

Airbus A320, being retired from Alaska’s fleet

Alaska first added the A320 to its fleet in 2018 and at their height, 53 of the type were operating with the airline. Per Cirium data, the narrow-body A320 flew more than 404,000 flights for Alaska Airlines with anywhere between 29 and 114 flights a day throughout 2022. This was more than its Boeing 737s and 737-MAX 9 aircraft.
The most popular flight was, by far, Seattle to Orlando.

The reason for this retirement is the same as that given for the upcoming retirement of the DeHavilland Dash-8 Q400 turboprop regional airliners; efficiency, and streamlining maintenance costs. The 737-MAX 9 aircraft will takeover the routes from the Airbus A320.
